My Favorite Retort

A European acquaintance was lecturing an Indian friend and me about religion and culture.

We heard reasoned, detailed arguments as to why Indian cultures and religions lacked the sophistication of their European analogues.

My friend listened, and then offered this: “Perhaps. But when your ancestors were climbing trees, mine were forging checks.”
